Queens University Belfast take SSI Netball title

2022-23 Student Sport Ireland Netball Champions - Queens University Belfast

Queens University Belfast were crowned Student Sport Ireland Netball League Champions for 2022-23 as they defeat Ulster University Belfast in the final on February 15th in Ulster University Jordanstown Campus on a 41-18 score line.

In the repeat of last years final which was won by Ulster University Belfast, the sides were deadlocked at seven points each at the end of a tight first quarter, and just four points separated the teams at the interval as Queens University had moved into a 17-13 half time lead.

The third quarter was where Queens University couldn’t miss as they outscored their opponents 13-3, to move into a 30-16 lead. Ulster University Belfast have to be complimented for never giving up but the harder they tried the more the bounce of the ball went the way of the winners and Queens University sealed the deal closing out the fourth quarter for a 41-18 win.

Student Sport Ireland Competition’s Manager presented the cup to the Queens University Captain Aislinn Cunningham after the game, and he praised all the teams in the league for their co-operation throughout the season and also thank Netball Northern Ireland for their help and provision of umpires for the final.

Next up for the teams is the Netball Intervarsity which is due to take place in Ulster University Coleraine on the weekend of March 24th-25th.
