Student Sport Ireland (SSI) is pleased to announce that 41 female student coaches from across the island of Ireland have successfully gained a place on the 2023-24 Women’s Student Coaching Academy.
Now in its 3rd year, the aim of the academy is to provide female student coaches with the support system that will enable them to develop and reach their coaching potential. Furthermore, the academy aims to increase the number, and visibility, of female coaches in third level institutions and create female role models for other female students to progress into coaching.
The Women’s Student Coaching Academy is a collaborative programme between SSI, Sport Ireland, third-level institutions and fourteen sporting National Governing Bodies (NGBs).
Throughout the year, the female student coaches will coach a team or athlete, while working alongside a mentor coach. They will also undertake a coaching course with their NGB, keep a weekly journal to track their coaching journey, and attend workshops offered by SSI.
The students will come together with their NGB’s representatives, mentor coaches and sports staff for a workshop at the Sport Ireland Campus on Wednesday 18th October, where they will be given a full schedule for their year, along with workshops on facilitation, journalling and mentorship.
Thank you to Archery Ireland, Athletics Ireland, Badminton Ireland, Basketball Ireland, the Camogie Association, Cricket Ireland, the Football Association of Ireland, Hockey Ireland, the Irish Rugby Football Union, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, Rowing Ireland, Triathlon Ireland, Volleyball Ireland, and Weightlifting Ireland for their support to develop our female student coaches.
