Student Sport Ireland hosted a workshop recently on the Sport Ireland Campus for female students in the Women’s Student Coaching Academy.
This workshop had four guest speakers and a tour of the magnificent Sport Ireland Institute on the campus in Blanchardstown.
The morning session saw the students engaged in a workshop on Fundamental Movement Skills delivered by 18-time national triple jump champion Saragh Buggy in association with Athletics Ireland.
The second workshop was titled ‘How to be an engaging coach’ and was delivered by Chloe Farrell, Sports Development Officer with Fingal County Council and a coach with the Irish Special Olympics Basketball team
The final workshop of the morning session was led by Erin Bracken, Women In Sport Lead with Basketball Ireland and a player and coach at national and international level within her sport basketball, this workshop was based on Planning and Preparation of coaching sessions.
After lunch and a tour of the Sport Ireland Institute the three speakers above were joined by Rowing Ireland Coach Janet Walsh from New Ross Rowing Club, for a very engaging panel discussion.
Following the panel discussion, the students present were presented with certificates of completion of the Women’s Student Coaching Academy by President of Student Sport Ireland, Mr. Matthew Dossett, who congratulated everyone involved with the academy and thanks Sport Ireland and all the national governing bodies, and colleges and universities for supporting such an important program for female sport at 3rd level.
