University of Limerick’s Andrew Meegan smashed the Irish senior 1500m freestyle record by over 12 seconds at the World University Games being held in Kazan. Meegan’s time of 15:25.38 qualified the Dublin swimmer for the final of the event which will be held at 4pm GMT on Friday (12th July).
This was the second national record set by Meegan at the competition having broken the 400m frestyle record in a time of 3:54.11.
Fiona Doyle maintained her recent excellent form by qualifying 4th for the final of the 100m breaststroke after winning her heat in a time of 1:08.86.
