Trinity College Dublin savor Thanksgiving Day Volleyball League Title

Trinity College Dublin’s Women’s Volleyball team were crowned Student Sport Ireland / Volleyball Ireland 3rd Level All-Ireland League winners recently as they dethroned NUI Galway in a very exciting final in Maynooth University.


Trinity College Dublin qualified for the final with a powerful 21-13, 21-14 victory over the host college Maynooth University, however NUI Galway were made to work all the way to reach the final as they squeezed past University College Cork 25-18, 21-25, 15-6 in a topsy-turvy semi-final.


With the finals falling on Thanksgiving Day Trinity College Dublin were without some of their key players for the final due to family commitments, however there was plenty to be thankful for as they were dominant in winning the final 25-14, 25-12.


Trinity College Dublin: Katie Ward, Tom Green, Hei Ching, Chan, Mieke DuMont, Liesbeth Carpenter, Kelly White, Morgan Foley, Alyanna Buriel, Alexandra Rojas, Erika Mapkonero, Jestlin Ng.

NUI Galway: Rochelle Sonido, Dilara Celik, Lenne Lumelay, Celia Gomez, Silvia Gigante, Ava Matthews, Erin Ferrier, Natalia Makosa, Claire Augereau, Jhoerilyn Cruz.


Both sides will look to build on their displays in the league in the new SSI/VI Cups which take place after Christmas with the draws for the Women’s Tier 1 Cup and Women’s Tier 2 taking place directly before the league final, with some very interesting clashes listed below, with University College Cork hosting NUI Galway in which maybe the tie of the round in the quarter finals.
