Round 1

Student Sport  Ireland (SSI) and Badminton Ireland will once again be running the popular SSI Badminton League for all third level institutions during the 2019-20 academic year.  This league is specifically aimed at increasing participation in the sport of Badminton in Colleges and Universities.

 

Only teams from SSI affiliated institutions are eligible to participate in the SSI leagues. A list of SSI member institutions can be found on the SSI website at www.studentsport.ie

 

FORMAT

Subject to the number of entries received there shall be one (1) division in the league with this division then spilt into four or six groups.  In relation to fixtures, subject to entries received, SSI will organise the league in the “triangular” format during the 2019-20 league season.  This “triangular” format will see three teams compete against each other in turn on the one day in the one venue, meaning teams will get to play two fixtures on each occasion they travel. Fixture groupings will change in each of the rounds so that all teams in each group will play each other at least once.

This season the team league will run before Christmas in Semester 1 with the final’s day in late November. There will be an open singles and an open mixed doubles events in Semester 2.
