SSI/Hockey Ireland Mixed hockey league final

Our mixed hockey league came to a dramatic conclusion earlier this week. Four teams from various parts of the island gathered at the Sports Ireland campus to participate in the Student Sport Ireland League semi-finals, all hoping to progress to the final.

The day started at 11 a.m., with the first semi-final featuring Technological University Dublin and the University of Limerick. The first half was hard-fought between the two sides, but Dublin came away with a 3-0 lead. They managed to widen the gap and secure their place in the final with a 5-1 win over UL.

The second semi-final, a repeat of last year’s final, saw Munster Technological University Cork face Ulster University Coleraine. The Ulster side went into halftime with a 2-1 lead against last year’s winners. But it wasn’t over for MTU Cork yet, as they worked their way back to a final score of 3-3. A nerve-wracking shootout saw UU Coleraine come out on top and advance to the final.

The League final then kicked off shortly after 3 p.m. and quickly saw TU Dublin take the lead, holding onto it with a tight grip. TU Dublin finished off the game with a convincing 6-0 win over UU Coleraine.

A huge congratulations to TU Dublin, and a big thank you to all students, coaches and umpires who were involved in this year’s league!
