SSI Competitions Postponed until Semester Two

Student Sport Ireland can confirm that all the league and cup competitions organised have been postponed until semester two. Student Sport Ireland run competitions across six different sports namely men’s and women’s rugby (in association with the I.R.F.U), men’s and women’s volleyball (in association with Volleyball Ireland), badminton (in association with Badminton Ireland), netball, pool and Karting.

Student Sport Ireland will review what guidelines are in place in relation to Covid 19 in early January and will then put structures for competitions in place, with the aim to get a competition in each sport completed during the months of February and March.

Student Sport Ireland have set the following guidance below in place for all competitions.

SSI Competitions Guidance

SSI will coordinate competitions at level 1 and level 2 of the Government of Ireland Living with Covid Framework and at step 4 and 5 of the Sport Northern Ireland Framework for Return to Sport.

All SSI competition fixtures involving teams from universities, institutes of technologies (ITs) and colleges located within counties or regions on level 3 or above of the Irish government’s framework and step 3 or below of the SNI framework will be postponed until these counties or regions return to level 2 and step 4 respectively.

While SSI is guided by Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, national governing bodies of sport and other key stakeholder guidance the participation of affiliated universities, ITs and colleges teams in SSI competitions is ultimately the decision of individual institutions.
