Irish team named for World University Golf Championships

Golf Ireland has announced its team squad for this summer’s World University Golf Championships on July 20th – 23rd in Royal Park I Golf Club, Torino, Italy.

The teams of six includes players from all four provinces. The men’s team is made up by Ryan Griffin (Ballybofey & Stranorlar, Maynooth University), Allan Hill and Simon Walker (both members of Roscommon Golf Club and students in Maynooth University). The women’s teams is made up by Kate Dwyer (Rossmore G.C., Maynooth University), Anna Dawson (Tramore G.C. and University of Arkansas Little Rock) and Clodagh Walsh (Castlewarden G.C., Maynooth University). The team manager who will travel with the Irish team is Sara Rose Shelly.

19 international golf federations will be represented with 138 athletes taking to the course in the competition. The championship is divided into individual and team competitions, with team Ireland hoping for a repeat of the success from the 2016 edition of the competition in Brive, France when Robin Dawson (brother of Anna Dawson) took gold in the men’s competition, while the men’s team took home home silver medals in second place overall.
