Eilidh Prise came agonisingly close to winning a medal at the first ever World University Modern Pentathlon Championships Women’s Final in Budapest, Hungary yesterday as she finished just nine points off third spot, to finish in sixth place.
A confident start in the pool saw the University of Bath student Prise, sit in sixth place overall, before 13 defeats and 10 victories in the fencing competition saw Eilidh in thirteenth place overall going into the final laser run event.
A monumental effort saw Eilidh clock up a time of 12.45.93 which was the third fastest saw her jump up to sixth place over all in the end with a combined total of 1018 points in the event. Micheli Elena from Italy took gold with 1049, showing just how close Prise was to the top end of the field.
Eilidh will join forces with UCD student Mike Healy in the Mixed Relay final which takes place on Saturday afternoon.
