The 2016 SSI Event of the Year Award was won by Dublin City University for their hosting of the Equestrian Intervarsity in the Irish National Equestrian Centre at Kilossery Lodge in March 2016. The event attracted the best riders in third level education from all four corners of the island of Ireland.

Over 150 competitors representing 20 universities took part in a superbly organised event that had well organised elements of competitions, entertainment, accommodation and a well organised health and safety plan. Like all events finance and budgeting is key and the organising committee secured sponsorship from Shires Equestrian products, Dressage Ireland, Jock Doyle, Camilla Speirs, Polo Wicklow and Army Equitation.

The event was covered extensively on social media by the organising committee and their media efforts were also rewarded with the DCU Communications and Marketing Award in 2016 for their highlights videos and social media campaigns before, during and after the event.
