Dublin City University were crowned the inaugural winners of the Student Sport Ireland Sports College of the Year at the recent SSI Network Event in Faithlegg House Hotel in Waterford.
The competition is awarded based on the results of teams from the colleges and universities of Ireland based on how they perform in 18 different competitions in six different sports organised by Student Sport Ireland, including Rugby, Volleyball, Badminton, Netball, Karting and Pool.
Dublin City University were the overall winners for the 2018-19 academic year after some fantastic results, with their Women’s Rugby Club performing heroics all through the year. With points being awarded for participation in competitions and also for performance Dublin City University were winners of the Women’s Rugby Division 1 & 2 Leagues, the inaugural Women’s Rugby Tier 1 Cup, Men’s and Women’s Rugby 7’s Cup, and were runners up in the Men’s Volleyball Competition. DCU also participated in Karting, Badminton and Pool.
President of Student Sport Ireland, Carmel Lynch presented the award to Yvonne McGowan, Senior Sports Development Officer and Robert Mullen, DCU Rugby Development Officer during the SSI Network Event.
