Board & Committees

Please follow the links below to view membership and functions of the Student Sport Ireland Board and its Committees.

The Board is elected at the Association’s annual general meeting held every February. The Board in turn delegates powers to the following committees, steering and working groups to implement its strategic plan.

 

 Key Functions
Student Sport Ireland Board                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             The Student Sport Ireland Board oversees the strategic development of the organisation and the implementation of its strategic plan by the Committees listed below and its staff. The SSI Board consists of the Hon. Chairperson, the Chairperson who is a student, the Hon. Secretary, the Hon. Treasurer, the Hon. President and the Chairpersons of the six Committees listed below.
Domestic Competitions Committee
  • Coordinate and develop the Student Sport Ireland Leagues and League Finals
  • Oversee the development of best practice for Intervarsity Competitions
  • Build and develop relationships with relevant sporting NGB’s
  • Research best practice to develop pathways for student sports.
Finance and Governance Committee
  • Review all company operations including an audit of company finances, policies and procedures
  • Develop a risk management template and implement recommendations of above review
  • Develop and oversee implementation of business plan including finance, sponsorship & fundraising plans
  • Compile Board and staff handbooks.
Health, Well-Being and Physical Activity Committee
  • Responsible for delivering initiatives to increase student, staff and local community physical activity levels
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of programmes to promote the benefits of physical activity and sport to students
  • Facilitate, advertise and deliver joint physical activity interventions with students and the community
  • Create a toolkit for good practice to be implemented by members
  • Collaborate with the established UK Health University Network.
High Performance Committee
  • Oversee Irish student participation at EUSA and FISU Competitions
  • Research current high performance national and international pathways for students
  • With NGBs oversee development of student athlete performance plans
  • Investigate the potential of educational pathways for high performance students via the CAO
  • Engage with second level institutions to identify challenges high performance athletes face transferring to third level and develop relevant support systems
Training and Development Committee
  • Develop and deliver training resources and opportunities for staff, members, students and volunteers
  • Coordinate the development of student administration skills training
  • Design and deliver volunteer development programme
  • Optimise Intercollegiate Event of the Year Award and develop mechanism to recognise and acknowledge voluntary contributions of students
