GMIT Mayo wins 2014 Surf Intervarsities

GMIT Mayo held off stiff competition from a strong IT Sligo team and reigning champions NUI Galway to win its first national surf title at the 2014 Surf Intervarsities on Keel beach in Achill, Co. Mayo at the weekend.
A record entry of 182 students from 15 colleges took part in the event, hosted by GMIT Mayo. They took to the seas in heavy conditions on Saturday morning with big swell, strong winds, and wintry showers making it difficult. By Sunday afternoon, however, winter had given way to spring and Achill was bathed in sunlight to reveal its beautiful splendour.

The competition was widely regarded as one of the best events in recent years, so great credit is due to the organising committee and volunteers of GMIT Mayo who can now relax and enjoy the fruits of two jobs well done – hosting and winning the event!
