Garda College retained the Student Sport Ireland/IRFU Men’s Rugby Division 1 title recently after topping the league with full points from five games played. Garda College finished clear winners with IT Carlow back in second spot nine points behind the Templemore based outfit. This victory gives Garda College number 1 seeding for the Brendan Johnston Cup, with the draw set to take place in the Aviva Stadium on January 19th.

Mary Immaculate were crowned champions of Division 2 with a 20-19 victory over IT Carlow ‘B’ in a pulsating game played in IT Carlow recently. Mary I who were crowned Tier 2 Cup champions in 2016-17 season just held out against a determined home side and this victory combined with the cup success last year sees the Limerick based outfit promoted to the Brendan Johnston Cup competition after Christmas.

Galway Mayo IT won the Division 3 final as they saw off Belfast Met in a superb game of rugby in Maynooth University recently. It took a last-minute penalty from the right wing to seal the deal as GMIT won 25-22. The sides will get a chance to renew rivalries after Christmas as both teams will be in the Tier 2 Cup following from their results in recent competitions.
