Monika Dukarska (IT Tralee) celebrates on the podium in Poznan, Poland after finishing third in the singles sculls at the 2016 World University Rowing Championships.

IT Tralee student Monika Dukarska continued Ireland’s recent success on the water at international level by capturing a bronze medal at the 2016 World University Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland in early September.

Monika who originally hails from the same area in Poland was just pipped for the silver medal by Austrian Lisa Farthofer with Germany’s Julia Leiding taking the gold in a very competitive women’s single sculls competition.

Monika was a member of a thirteen-person Irish team who travelled to the championships, however she was the only Irish Rower to compete in an ‘A’ final. A number of Irish crews did qualify for ‘B’ Finals with the men’s and women’s double sculls and lightweight men’s doubles all claiming third place in ‘B’ finals meaning 9th place overall. The women’s four of Aoife Feeley (UCC), Aileen Crowley (UCD), Siofra Bennett (UCD) and Eimear Lambe (UCD) finished second in their ‘B’ final which equates to 8th overall. Christopher Beck was 5th in the ‘B’ final of the lightweight men’s single sculls, while Andrew Goff raced in the ‘C’ final of the men’s single.
