UUJ win SSI Netball Title in Extra Time

Ulster University Jordanstown claim Student Sport Ireland Netball title.

Ulster University Jordanstown claimed a dramatic extra time victory over St Mary’s Belfast in the final of the Student Sport Ireland Netball League on Wednesday afternoon last in the Antrim Forum on a final score line of 35-29.

The lead changed hands at the end of each quarter with St Mary’s leading 7-6 after the first quarter, however at half time it was Ulster University Jordanstown who pushed in front 14-13. Ulster University Jordanstown continued to lead at the end of the third quarter on 21 points to 20. The final quarter was top drawer netball from both teams with St Mary’s getting a run of four unanswered goals to move 27-24 in front. With ninety seconds remaining it looked bleak for UUJ but they scored three incredible goals to level the sides at the end of normal time 27 point a piece.

In extra time it was UUJ who rose to the challenge quickest and had a five point lead at half time in extra time and although St Mary’s battled hard right until the end UUJ were crowned champions on a 35-29 score line.
