Irish Surfing Intervarsities 2016

Irish Surfing is delighted to announce that the Irish Surfing Intervarsities 2016 will take place in Strandhill, Co Sligo on the 5/6 March in association with Sligo IT Surf Club. Six titles will be awarded in Men’s Surf, Women’s Surf, Bodyboard, Longboard and SUP along with the coveted overall club title. The event is open to any full time student studying at a university, IT and other third level colleges on the island of Ireland and is expected to attract over 150 students from surf clubs representing 15 or more third level colleges. The Irish Surfing Intervarsities has been an annual event on the Irish Surfing calendar since the late nineties.
IT Sligo Surf Club is one of the largest and most vibrant clubs in IT Sligo with over 15 years of activity. The Club competes annually at the National Student Intervarsities, the clubs last win came in 2011 in Portrush. IT Sligo has a history of running successful events. The last event ran by the Club was in 2012, when the club hosted the event in Strandhill, Co Sligo, at which NUIG were crowned champions. IT Sligo’s Surf Club current chairman is Jack-Tim Malone-Murphy. Jack-Tim is a resident of Wexford, where he runs a busy surf school. In IT Sligo Jack-Tim is currently studying sports studies on the Recreation and Leisure degree programme. Jack-Tim and his team are excited about bringing a fun, well run event to Sligo which can showcase the best of student surf culture in Ireland while utilising Sligo’s world renowned surfing coast line.
