Dublin University Boat Club and Dublin University Ladies Boat Club (Trinity Rowing) carried a lot of momentum into this year’s Irish University Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Centre in Cork after a strong winter and impressive clean sweep in the annual Colours Races.

Arriving late on Thursday evening with a massive fleet crews were met with sunshine and flat calm waters which were perfect for pre-race outings. Racing began at 11am the next day with both DUBC and DULBC flooding the entries with some highly experimental yet highly competitive crews. Trinity rowing was able to enter at least one crew in each category while in some having at least two crews.

DUBC won the Wylie cup. This is awarded to the highest achieving club in the 8’s categories and with wins in the Club8+ as well as the blue ribboned Senior8+ the men regained the Wylie. DUBC also took home gold in the Club4+. DULBC won their equivalent, the Bank of Ireland Trophy, with wins in the Club8+ and Intermediate 8+.  They also won the Senior 2- and  4- as well as the Intermediate 2x and Club 4+.

Trinity Rowing’s strong performances in every event meant the University retained its title as overall winners of the University Championships with double the points of 2nd place.
