Despite the bad weather throughout the country 14 teams travelled to Trinity College Dublin for the Water Polo Intervarsities on 30th/31st January 2015.

Old rivalries were restored when the Trinity Ladies took on UCD in the opening game of Group A. Trinity took an early lead and held on to it for a 12-6 win. Group B saw DIT beat ITB 4-0. Both DIT and Trinity topped their groups and overcame UCD and Queens respectively to set up and all Dublin final. The final turned out to be a closely contested affair with the match tied 8-8 after the fourth quarter. It went to a penalty shoot-out with Trinity piping DIT 4-3 and being crowned champions. DIT’s Lisa Kelly was deservedly awarded MVP.

The men’s competition began with ITB taking on, but losing 4-0 to the hosts. DCU took on and beat Queens in Group B of the men’s competition in what would eventually decide the semi-final line up. In the first of the Semi’s Trinity overcame Queens 9-6 setting up a final with NUIG who overcame DCU by a single goal 7-6 in the other semi-final. Trinity led in each of the quarters in the final and eventually beat a talented NUIG team 12-9. Trinity College Sports Scholarship student Kevin Johnston was awarded MVP.

Much credit is due to Trinity College Swimming and Water Polo club for organising the event under the guidance of club captain Feilim O’Connor.
