Former Cork Senior Intercounty Goalkeeper Joins UCC Sports Department

Cork’s 2010 All Ireland winning goalkeeper Alan Quirke, took up employment in UCC in January 2015. Alan will work under Ireland’s Grand Slam winning coach Declan Kidney and deputy director Christine O Donovan.

Alan left the army to take up this position in UCC. He joins initially on a 3 year contract. Alan will work closely with existing staff in promoting sport & physical activity on campus.

He will be the departments Health & Safety officer and will work closely with all clubs to improve that aspect of club activity and ensure safe practice in all codes. He will also have responsibility for the department’s media & communication and will ensure that the department’s new “app” is kept up to date & ensure the website is current & fresh. He will work closely with clubs to develop their sites.

Alan will coordinate UCC club events & external events hosted on the UCC sports sites.

He is currently assisting with the organisation of the upcoming Sigerson Cup which will be hosted by UCC – a competition close to his heart having represented UCC in this competition whilst a student there.

Alan was heavily involved in the organisation of a number of sports while in the Army and he will bring his organisational skills to good stead in the sports department.
