Student Sport Ireland is pleased to announce Dublin City University student Lindsay Peat as the inaugural winner of the Student Sport Ireland Leadership Award (2013/2014).

As a player, captain, coach and administrator Lindsay Peat is respected and admired by her peers for her hard work, commitment and administrative excellence in both basketball and GAA at both university and national level. Student, captain and coach to the basketball varsity team that won the double of All Ireland and Intervarsity championships in 2014, chairperson to the DCU ladies basketball club and key organiser of the Basketball Intervarsity Championship hosted by DCU Lindsay combines student life with her external sporting commitments of playing Superleague basketball for DCU Mercy and intercounty football with Dublin.

Arguably the best point guard of her generation playing in Ireland and one of the most stand out performers in the women’s game in recent years Lindsay has represented Ireland in basketball across all age groups from under 16 to senior women’s. A member of the Parnell’s GAA club Lindsay lined out for the Dublin team that last September lost the All Ireland Ladies Senior Football Final by the slimmest of margins to the legendary Cork with Lindsay scoring two goals.

In congratulating Lindsay on her award DCU Senior Sports Development Officer stated “Lindsay is an outstanding sportswoman and a leader that strives for excellence both on and off the court and pitch. Lindsay shows dedication, determination and a hardworking nature and has displayed outstanding qualities in her academic studies and her sport. I am delighted that Student Sport Ireland have recognised Lindsay as the inaugural recipient of its Leadership Award and congratulate Lindsay on this fantastic achievement”.
